his was a Bone of contention in the Corinthian church and even today in the modern church. Remember Paul was advising them as an Apostle, as one who have obtained mercy from God to be faithful 1 Corinthians 7:25. These questions where thrown to Paul by the Corinthian church and he had to answer them with the spirit of God.
The Head of every man is christ; and the head of the woman is the man: and the head of Christ is God. He was specific in telling them that a man who covers his head while praying dishonor his head, and who is his head?? Jesus Christ.
But if a opens her head while praying she dishonors her own head ( The Man).
A lot of Christian see this as nothing, they come to the church with their hair open, Paul told them that if it is a shame for a woman to bring her hair to zero, then it is also a shame for her to leave it uncovered.
1Cor 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. Many Christains stake this part of the scriptures to buttress their point that there is nothing wrong for a woman to open her hair in the presence of God. Now Paul was actually trying to state how important it is to cover the hair in that portion of the scripture. But they forget to read here that says 1Cor 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? And he also went ahead to say 1Cor 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
Nature gives the men bald hair or scanty hair and gives the women full and long hairs, so if nature gives the woman a lot of hair to cover her head then it should be wise also for you to do more than nature to respect God.
Cover your hair to respect God, the Apostles took their time to explain these, most of them saw Jesus and learnt from him more of things you wouldn't see in the scriptures. And Apostle Paul was one of them. He concluded that issue by saying 1Cor 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
