Unveiling the Pinocchio Effect:

**Unveiling the Pinocchio Effect: How Physiological Responses Betray Deceit**

We've all heard the tale of Pinocchio, the wooden puppet whose nose grows longer every time he tells a lie. While the whimsical story is a work of fiction, there's a fascinating phenomenon known as the "Pinocchio effect" that brings a touch of reality to this concept. In the world of psychology and deception detection, the Pinocchio effect refers to the idea that lies might be betrayed by certain physiological changes in our bodies.

**The Anatomy of Deceit: How Our Body Reacts to Lies**

When we lie, our bodies can often react in subtle yet noticeable ways. These physiological changes are rooted in the complex interplay between our nervous system, emotions, and cognitive processes. Researchers have identified several indicators that could potentially give away a liar:
 1. **Heart Rate**: The heart tends to race when a person is anxious or under stress, such as when they're being untruthful. An increased heart rate can be a clue that someone might not be telling the whole truth.

 2. **Voice Changes**: A person's voice might reveal signs of nervousness, such as an elevated pitch, hesitations, or even cracking. These vocal shifts can be involuntary and difficult to control when under pressure.

 3. **Microexpressions**: These are brief facial expressions that can reveal genuine emotions, even when someone is trying to conceal them. These subtle cues can be challenging to detect, but they can provide valuable insights into a person's honesty.

 4. **Sweating**: Increased perspiration is another common response to stress. While it might not be as noticeable as Pinocchio's growing nose, it can still be a telling sign of deceit.

The Pinocchio effect is grounded in the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, breathing, and digestion. When we're lying, the brain's limbic system—the emotional center—can trigger the fight-or-flight response. This, in turn, activates the sympathetic nervous system, leading to physiological changes associated with stress.

Advanced technology has allowed researchers to study these changes in greater detail. Tools like polygraph machines, which measure variables like heart rate, blood pressure, and skin conductance, have been used to detect physiological changes indicative of lying. However, it's important to note that the accuracy of polygraphs is a topic of debate within the scientific community, and their results are not always foolproof.

While the Pinocchio effect offers intriguing insights into deception, it's crucial to interpret physiological changes within the broader context. People can experience heightened stress or anxiety for reasons other than lying, such as nervousness during public speaking or high-pressure situations.

Additionally, some individuals are skilled at masking their emotions and physical reactions, making deception harder to detect. The Pinocchio effect raises ethical questions about privacy and consent, especially when it comes to using lie detection technology in various contexts, including criminal investigations and job interviews. Striking a balance between personal rights and the pursuit of truth is an ongoing challenge.

While we might not experience the same fantastical transformations as Pinocchio, the Pinocchio effect serves as a reminder that our bodies can reveal more than we intend, especially when it comes to deceit.

However, the science behind this phenomenon is complex, and caution should be exercised when interpreting physiological responses as definitive proof of lying. As technology and our understanding of human behavior continue to evolve, the Pinocchio effect remains an intriguing area of study—one that reminds us of the intricate relationship between our minds, bodies, and the truth. ---

Dr Stella’s COVID-19 treatment claim unproven ...Mere speculation, medical directors insist July 28, 2020

The Guild of Medical Directors (GMD) has reacted to video claims by Dr Stella Immanuel, a General Practitioner (GP) in the U.S. that she has treated over 350 patients of COVID-19 with combination of Hydrochloroquine (HCQ), Zinc and Zithromax, saying it is her own personal, unsubstantiated claim.

In a statement signed by the President of GMD, Prof. Olufemi Babalola in Abuja on Tuesday, the doctors said “there is no scientific evidence to prove the claim.”

The Nigerian-born and trained physician, is trending on social media after delivering a speech on COVID-19 in the U.S. on Monday.

She said at a news conference held by a group of American doctors under the aegis of “America’s Frontline Doctors” in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington DC that the antimalarial drug — hydroxychloroquine, zinc and antibacterial drug — Zithromax, were effective cures for
the coronavirus disease.

The doctors held a two-day “White Coat Summit” at the Capitol Hill to address what they call “massive disinformation campaign” surrounding the virus.

Immanuel, who was joined by other frontline doctors, said she had treated no fewer than 350 patients with hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax.

However, the GMD president stated that research on the efficacy of the combination of Hydrochloroquine (HCQ), Zinc and Zithromax to treat COVID-19 had yet to be concluded.

He noted that “we have watched with dismay the viral video of Dr Stella Immanuel, a doctor in the United States of America.

The video has been shared all over the country and led to many people justifiably asking the question, ‘What do you think, doctor?.

“The video was part of a news conference held in America.”

Babalola stated that the group was founded by Dr Simone Gold, a board-certified physician and attorney, made up of medical doctors who came together to address what the group termed “massive disinformation campaign” about the coronavirus.

The guild president noted that while some studies suggested that it was effective, others felt otherwise.

He added that “it is true that Senegal, where HCQ is routinely used, has one of the lowest COVID-19 case fatality rates in the world at 0.64 per cent compared to 3.4 per cent in the U.S.

“As we speak, a study is underway at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on its efficacy and safety. Subsequently, a meta-analysis of all these studies should be undertaken to pool all the results and come up with analysis which will guide clinicians.

“So, until then, all anecdotal claims such as the one from Dr Stella Immanuel must be taken with a pinch of salt.”

Babalola stated that HCQ may be a cause of serious complications and even death in some people, stressing that other anecdotalclaims such as the herbal mixture from Madagascar had subsequently been proven ineffective.

He stated that the Guild of Medical Directors is a body of owners of private hospitals in Nigeria “and collectively, we are responsible for the management of about 70 per cent of the healthcare needs of Nigerians.

“So, a lot of the burden in explaining the problem as related to the video naturally falls on us. Therefore, we feel it is pertinent to explain or clarify the issues for Nigerians

Do you keep a diary??

Do you keep a diary???
As I usually do, I also noticed that most young people doesn't make use of a diary or should I say doesn't know what a diary is.
I'll do my best to enlighten you, " A Diary is a record originally in handwritten format with discrete entries arranged by date, reporting on what has happened over the course of a day."
A lot of older people knows what a diary means but most of them doesn't keep one. My Dad keeps a diary since I was a child. He has a diary for every new year. But I noticed he isn't using a diary anymore since he lost his 2018 diary. So I haven't seen him with a 2019 nor a 2020 diary.
He writes down almost everything in that diary and if you ask him he would say "I forget a lot and my diary reminds me". Anything that isn't in his diary is seen as something he didn't come across or something he wasn't involved in.
As a child anytime I was bored I would quickly pick up his old diary and begin to go through them, I later learnt that it was bad to go through people's personal diary but my Amebo sense wouldn't allow me😉😉
Do we now say that the era of personal diary is over following the advent of the internet?? NO!!! You'll have to ask yourself how many of you keep an online diary.
The diary is your closet friend, you share your thoughts,  experiences, fears, secret and intimate moments of yourself with it. Your so called best friends might not be able to keep your secret but trust me your diary can.
It's important because when you are gone people can refer back, dictate, verify and ascertain the real you. Don't think that your social media handle is a diary, there are things you wouldn't share in your timeline, but you would with a dairy.
If you don't have a diary get one! Your experience during this pandemic is worth sharing with a diary, so that your future looks back to your past and gets inspiration to open more brighter spaces.
Keep a diary today and start with
"Dear Diary "✍

"DOES IT HAVE TO BE REVEALING TO BE MODELLED?
This is one question that has been on my mind.
Must a lady expose her body to be a model?
Must the clothes be revealing?
Must ladies crucify their dignity to be considered beautiful?
What happened to modesty?
How many modeling agencies employ ladies that are not ready to go naked?
I have had some agencies approach me to model for them but back off when I told them I was not going to bare my skin.
Do we even have Christian modeling agencies?
Do we have godly fashion designers?
Someday, someday...
Let me comment my reserve😏
Do we even make modesty attractive?

Can the world look at us and want to cover up because modesty is beautiful, even more beautiful?
We are in this world but we are not of this world.
